Following a multiple distributor war, MUBI has reportedly won domestic and multiple international rights to the Cannes Competition film “Die, My Love” in a deal worth $24 million.
Lynne Ramsay directs the drama which stars Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson and deals with a couple who have moved from the city to an isolated farmhouse in rural Montana.
In the wake of giving birth, she deals with postpartum depression which consumes her mentally. Nick Nolte, LaKeith Stanfield and Sissy Spacek co-star in the film which scored mixed reviews going by the Cannes Jury gird.
However, Lawrence’s work in the movie is being universally praised, and there’s already plenty of talk about Lawrence being in the awards conversation for this year.
Screen Daily reports that the deal is a full domestic theatrical commitment on 1,500 screens for 45 days and will include North America, Latin America and the UK, but multiple European and Asian markets as well as Australia and New Zealand.
This marks the first major deal at Cannes this year and MUBI’s biggest acquisition ever. The distributor, who reportedly beat out the likes of Apple and Neon, had major success with their Cannes acquisition “The Substance” last year.
Ramsay directs “Die My Love” from her script written with Enda Walsh and Alice Birch. Lawrence, Martin Scorsese, Justine Ciarrocchi, Andrea Calderwood, Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill and Thad Luckinbill produce.
