Chris Hanley and Jordan Gertner, the producers of Harmony Korine’s 2012 cult crime thriller “Spring Breakers,” are reportedly working on a sequel which will be titled “Spring Breakers: Salvation Mountain”.
Matthew Bright (“Freeway”) will take over as director on the project which will boat an all new cast that includes Bella Thorne, Grace Van Dien, True Whitaker and Ariel Martin.
The four play a group rebellious girls who hit the road for spring break. When their trip explodes out of control, they’re forced to outrun the chaos they’ve created. The project is dubbed “a bold new ride for Gen Z”.
James Franco, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens co-starred in the original film which grossed over $30 million at the global box office from a $5 million budget and is mostly known for its aesthetic of gun-toting girls in fluorescent bikinis and balaclavas.
Previous a sequel involving Christian extremists, titled “Spring Breakers: The Second Coming,” was in development in 2014 with Jonas Åkerlund attached and Irvine Welsh penning the script. The film quickly stalled in development and ultimately never happened.
