Filmmaker James Wan has taken issue with reports of extensive reshoots on his upcoming DC Comics adaptation “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”.
Many of the reports have indicated that during the film’s post-production period, the sequel required at least three rounds of reshoots. Previously, Wan addressed the rumors saying they had to break up the additional filming into sections due to scheduling availability.
Wan has also had to deal with a negative narrative with all sorts of noise regarding the film sprouting from published details from the Johnny Depp & Amber Heard case leading to the movie being caught up in some media crosshairs.
In a new interview with Empire, Wan says the reshoot process on the film was rather ordinary, in fact despite the number of reshoots the actual length of time spent on additional filming was a lot less than other tentpoles:
“We probably did seven or eight days [of reshoots]. Nothing for a movie of this size. It was just spread out because it’s so hard to get your actors back once you’ve finished the initial shoot.
I’m a pretty private person. I don’t get on social media and have fights, but it’s difficult because this narrative has emerged that is not the reality. The noise is fun to write about and it gets clicks. But people don’t know the truth.”
Wan also says he’s not wary of reshoots as they can add things, reminding people how he “built an entire franchise from a reshoot” referring to the few days of reshoots on “The Conjuring 2” leading to “The Nun” franchise.
“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is set to open in theaters on December 20th.
