Chris Sanders To Direct “The Wild Robot”

Dreamworks

Filmmaker Chris Sanders (“The Croods,” “How to Train Your Dragon”) will direct the new animated feature “The Wild Robot” at DreamWorks Animation. No release date is set.

The project is based on the New York Times best-selling 2016 book by Peter Brown. Sanders wrote the script and is directing whilst Jeff Hermann is producing and Dean DeBlois will executive produce.

The story follows Rozzum ‘Roz’ 7134, a robot that washes ashore on a deserted island. So begins a tale of survival when she becomes the unexpected protector to an orphaned gosling, which she names Brightbill.

Together they struggle to survive the harsh environment but only succeed with the help of a close-knit group of misfit animals, who become first friends, then family.

Ultimately Roz and company save the island from a robotic invasion by Roz’s manufacturer looking to bring her back to civilization by any means necessary.

Also onboard are production designer Raymond Zibach (“Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas”), editor Mary Blee (“How to Train Your Dragon”); and head of story Heidi Jo Gilbert (“Puss in Boots: The Last Wish”).

The project will mark Sanders’ fifth directorial effort, his first being Disney’s “Lilo & Stitch” and his most recent being the live-action “The Call of the Wild” starring Harrison Ford.
