The first official photos and motion poster for the Disney+ series adaptation of Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” novels have arrived ahead of the show’s double-episode debut on December 20th.
The photos shows off the main trio of Walker Scobell’s Percy, Leah Sava Jeffries’ Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri’s Grover Underwood. Unlike the films which he’s essentially disavowed, Riordan and his wife Becky tell EW they have been involved in the series since its inception and call this a faithful adaptation and “the one you’ve been waiting for.”
The live-action series follows the fantastical story of the titular twelve-year-old modern demigod, Percy Jackson, who’s just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. Now Percy must trek across America to find it and restore order to Olympus.
Also starring are Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse La Rue, Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan, Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson, Glynn Turman as Chiron, Megan Mullally as Mr. Dodds, Olivea Morton as Nancy Bobofit, and Timm Sharp as Gabe Ugliano.
The gods include Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus, Adam Copeland as Ares, Jay Duplass as Hades, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes, Timothy Omundson as Hephaestus, Toby Stephens as Poseidon, and the late Lance Reddick as Zeus.
The series is being directed by James Bobin from a screenplay co-written by Riordan and Jon Steinberg. Head over to EW for the photos.
