Sony held its latest State of Play event yesterday, and along with showing off a bunch of “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” and “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora” which were already covered elsewhere on this site, they made another big announcement.
Namely, Square Enix has confirmed that the launch date of “Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth” – the second entry in the FF7 remake trilogy – will be on February 29th exclusively for the PlayStation 5 for at least three months (it’s not clear what formats it’s coming to after that).
For those who use discs, it will come on two of them. The announcement also sported a trailer that demonstrated gameplay and cutscenes from the game, and can be seen below.
The game was first announced back in June 2022 and so far development seems to be on track to meet its release date goal.
After escaping from the dystopian city of Midgar, Cloud and his friends set out on a journey across the planet. New adventures await in a vibrant and vast world – sprint across grassy plains on a Chocobo and explore expansive environments.
The game is said to be a new standalone story and thus doesn’t require having played or finished “Final Fantasy VII Remake” in order to play it.
Additionally, Square Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed via PlayStation Blog that the game will end at The Forgotten Capital, likely finishing on a cliffhanger after that sequence’s big twist reveal.
That said, Nomura advises the order in which you can explore the locations is not the same as the original FF7 and a location like Wutai is being held back for the third game.
Sony also revealed that it will be releasing three new DualSense and console covers in metallic colours – Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue and Sterling Silver. The red and blue arrive on November 3rd, the silver on January 26th.
