Though they’re famous in superhero circles for the scrapped “Batgirl” adaptation, filmmakers Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are also known as directors of episodes of one of Marvel’s most acclaimed series – “Ms. Marvel”.
Of course, that series decidedly underwhelmed in terms of viewers with very few tuning into the series, despite the great reviews. Thus a potential second season for the series seems in limbo.
Speaking with The Playlist recently, the pair were asked about the current status of another run of “Ms. Marvel” and whether the pair would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe anytime soon.
Turns out it’s a wait and see, with the show’s fate depending upon the success of a certain movie in which Iman Vellani’s lead character appears:
“We’re waiting for ‘The Marvels,’ so that will decide what the next step will be. So we’re very much looking forward to that. I can’t wait to see it, man. It’s great to see the trailers and to see the whole family back there and Iman Vellani doing great work, so looking forward to that.”
“The Marvels” sees Vellani reprise the Ms. Marvel role alongside Teyonah Parris and Brie Larson in the movie which will be the big new MCU entry for this Fall. Either way though, El Arbi says they are keen to work with Marvel again:
“Well, you know, if they ask us to come back to ‘Ms. Marvel,’ we love the universe, we love those characters, and Iman, and all of the other supporting actors there, so it would be an honor to come back and explore some more.
There is a Moroccan superhero we forgot to name that exists, so we can go there. And, you know, we love ‘Blade.’ Our buddy Yann Demange is now doing ‘Blade.’ If Yann doesn’t want to do the second movie, we’re still there. And ‘Deadpool’ – we’re always there for ‘Deadpool.’ If there’s a fourth one, we’re also game, so if they call us, we’re good.”
The pair’s newest film “Rebel” hits select theaters on September 15th. Check out a new IMAX trailer for “The Marvels” below.
