CBS’ “The Talk,” and syndicated talk shows “The Jennifer Hudson Show” and “Sherri” (hosted by Sherri Shepherd) are all reportedly returning to production in the coming weeks according to THR.
The news follows in the wake of Drew Barrymore and her show returning to production, with WGA members in New York picketing that decision. Two audience members tell the outlet they were reportedly asked to leave a taping after they wore pins supporting the strike inside.
Technically Barrymore is not violating SAG-AFTRA rules as the host of the show because talk shows, game shows and competition series are allowed to continue to film under SAG-AFTRA rules with that guild’s contracts for shows in those categories sorted out last year.
The issue with these kinds of shows revolves around writers as “The Drew Barrymore Show” was previously written by WGA members. So new episodes will have to utilise either non-WGA writers or no writers at all.
CBS Media Ventures said in a statement to Variety that the series will “not be performing any writing work covered by the WGA strike” and Barrymore said in her post over the weekend that the show will be compliant with WGA rules and also wouldn’t promote struck work.
Both “The View” and “Live with Kelly and Mark” are still airing new episodes with “The View” writers under a separate contract, whilst the “Kelly and Mark” series doesn’t employ WGA writers.
