Scorsese’s “Killers” Release Plans Expand

Paramount Pictures

Apple Studios is expanding its release plans for Martin Scorsese’s new historical drama “Killers of the Flower Moon”. Originally the plan was to give the film a limited theatrical release on October 6th ahead of an Apple TV+ premiere.

Those plans have now been ditched. Instead, Apple and distributor Paramount Pictures are now set to give the film a worldwide theatrical release on October 20th.

It was not disclosed how many screens worldwide will play the film, but an IMAX run is said to be a part of the new plan. The film will stream on Apple TV+ following its theatrical run but a date for that streaming launch has not yet been determined.

The three-and-a-half hour runtime film is seen as a potential awards frontrunner following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival to critical praise.

The story is set in 1920s Oklahoma, it depicts the events surrounding the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation, a string of brutal crimes that came to be known as the Reign of Terror.

Leonardo DiCaprio, Lily Gladstone, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion and Tantoo Cardinal also star.
