Before the merger of Warner and Discovery empires was completed came CNN+, a standalone news subscription service that came to define the very term “short-lived” when it was shuttered just one month after launch.
Now, a little over a year on, Warner Bros. Discovery is trying again albeit this time incorporated as a hub within the Max subscription service as CNN Max.
Rebranding the existing CNN originals hub, CNN Max will add breaking 24/7 news programming to the service starting September 27th and will kick off with an open beta at no extra charge to subscribers.
CNN Max will include programming specifically built for the Max streaming audience like the CNN Newsroom programs along with series like “Amanpour,” “Anderson Cooper 360,” “The Lead with Jake Tapper” and “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer”.
In addition, the streaming offering is changing its aim to target a younger audience with the service than on traditional TV and news programming.
JB Perrette, CEO and president, global streaming and games at Warner Bros. Discovery, said in a statement on Thursday the service allows Max customers to “easily catch up on what is happening in the world, particularly in moments of breaking news, all within one seamless experience.”
