Trailer: R.L. Stine’s “Zombie Town”

Viva Pictures

The first trailer has been released for “Zombie Town,” a new indie young adult horror comedy feature based on the 2012 novel by “Goosebumps” and “Fear Street” author R.L. Stine.

The story unfolds in a quiet town that is upended when teenager Mike (Marlon Kazadi) and his friend, Karen (Madi Monroe), see a horror movie called “Zombie Town” at their local theater.

Unexpectedly the title characters leap off the screen and chase them through the theater – and soon begin turning the town’s citizens into the living dead. The pair have to race to stop the film from spreading further and the zombie outbreak that has already taken hold.

Tone-wise, the PG-13 film is partway between kid-friendly “Goosebumps” and the bloodier “Fear Street” – though the Canada shot feature’s indie roots are obvious.

Comedy icons Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase have major supporting roles – Aykroyd, in particular, seems to be a significant character. “Mission: Impossible” alum Henry Czerny and “Kids in the Hall” veterans Scott Thompson and Bruce McCulloch also star.

Canadian animator Peter Lepeniotis directs the film which Viva Pictures will release in U.S. cinemas on September 1st. The film was already released in Canadian cinemas last Friday, though no reviews are presently available.
