“Warrior Nun” Return To Be A Movie Trilogy

Netflix

Back in late June came the news that after more than half a year of fan campaigning, Netflix’s cancelled “Warrior Nun” series was being resurrected.

Based on the comic by Ben Dunn, the series revolves around the story of a 19-year-old woman who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back.

She discovers she is now part of the ancient Order of the Cruciform Sword that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her.

Canadian writer and showrunner Simon Barry announced the news, confirming the series would return and was “going to be more EPIC than you could imagine”. Specific details were to be revealed later.

Cut to today, and in a video posting on YouTube, series executive producer Dean English revealed one of those details. It turns out the franchise’s return won’t be in the form of a third season – rather, it’ll be a trilogy of movies. He explains:

“I am very happy to announce that Warrior Nun is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures. Once again, a trilogy of feature films. Three.

Some may ask, ‘Does this perhaps infer that there’s going to be a universe being launched of Warrior Nun, which could expand into films and TV series following characters that we already know?’ The answer to that question is yes. And there will be more details in the future.”

He adds that the ongoing strikes in Hollywood mean he can’t make any further announcements regarding the films which is why there are no further details – especially about casting or storyline.

The series debuted on Netflix in 2020 and released its second season in November last year – the second season pulling in what is said to be the highest audience score to date for a Netflix series.
