Pugh Rumored For Live-Action “Tangled”

Warner Bros. Pictures

Disney’s live-action adaptations of its animated features is showing no signs of slowing down with the already announced or expected ones on the way, including “Moana,” “Bambi” and “Lilo & Stitch” among others.

A DisInsider report last week however also indicated live-action takes on both “Tangled” and “The Princess and the Frog” were on the way.

At last report, Disney was working on a live-action “Rapunzel” movie a few years ago with Ashleigh Powell (“The Nutcracker and the Four Realms”). They made it a point at the time that the film would not be a “Tangled” remake but a new take on the original fairytale story.

Whatever the case, cut to today, and industry insider Daniel RPK has posted a rumor that British actress Florence Pugh is being sought for the Rapunzel role. Pugh is familiar with the Disney machine, playing Yelena Belova in 2021’s “Black Widow” and the upcoming “Thunderbolts” film.

The scooper’s report doesn’t indicate if discussions have taken place or if any offers have been sent to the actress, and with the actor’s strikes on, there likely won’t be any progress until that’s resolved.

The project is still said to be in the very early phases of development. Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, and Donna Murphy voiced the original 2009 animated “Tangled” which scored widespread acclaim and made over $590 million globally.
