Whilst filmmaker David Gordon Green brought back Michael Myers for his “Halloween” revival trilogy, his upcoming “The Exorcist” revival trilogy isn’t doing the same.
Talking with IGN, he confirms the demon seen possessing the girls in trailers for “The Exorcist: Believer” is NOT Pazuzu, the Mesopotamian demonic god of the winds who served as the antagonist across the prior “Exorcist” films.
Green adds that: “We use a new demon, no Pazuzu. We feature a demon who studied demonologists might know.”
Pazuzu isn’t mentioned by name in the original 1973 film, though his statue is glimpsed in the film’s prologue. The possession of Regan (Linda Blair) is frequently misattributed to the Devil himself. It’s not until the second film that the name is mentioned.
The new film serves as a direct sequel to the original, ignoring the other sequels. In the film, two girls go missing and come back possessed.
Leslie Odom Jr. stars as one of the parents who has never seen anything like this and sets out to find someone who has – none other than Regan’s mother Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn). Ann Dowd, Lidya Jewett, and Jennifer Nettles also star.
“The Exorcist: Believer” is currently slated for an October 13th release, whilst “The Exorcist: Deceiver” will hit cinemas on April 18th 2025.
