Fifth “Insidious” Hits PVOD & Breaks Record

Blumhouse Productions, Universal Pictures

Sony’s “Insidious: The Red Door,” the fifth and seemingly final intstallment in the supernatural franchise, has overcome bad reviews and proven to be a success for its distributor.

The film became available on PVOD today, less than four weeks after its debut on July 7th in cinemas. Nonetheless, it is being seen as a major success story.

In a Summer with few film success stories beyond the Barbenheimer craze, the film has managed to rack up $174.8 million at the worldwide box-office. That overtakes the fourth film record to become the highest-grossing entry in the series to date.

Added to that is the film cost a tight $16 million to produce, the most expensive film of the five but still relatively cheap and certainly low enough that the film is already well into profit.

Series star Patrick Wilson directed this entry which saw the return of actor Ty Simpkins as a now college-aged Dalton who, with his father (Wilson) must go deeper into The Further than ever before to resolve their past.

In the most recent weekend, the film came in ninth and added a further $3.2 million to its tally.
