At D23 last weekend came the news that “Wolf Man” actor Christopher Abbott had taken the role of Professor X in the upcoming “X-Men” film at Marvel Studios.
The casting followed a number of names that had been rumored for the role including the likes of Bill Skarsgard, Harris Dickinson, Will Poulter and Tom Pelphrey.
Pelphrey is arguably the least known of the group, but the “Ozark,” “Banshee” and “Task” actor has scored two Emmy nominations for his work and been a fan favourite in some of his roles.
Appearing on THR’s Awards Chatter podcast which was just published and was conducted just three days before Abbott was announced in the role, the actor confirmed he was in the running for the role and laughs that it might be a good thing he didn’t for a very practical reason:
“I’ve also got a fat head. I have a watermelon. I was like, “If we’re even going to have this conversation, go into your AI image generator and look at me with a shaved head. That alone could be horrifying enough.” I’m not kidding. The only hat I can wear is a fitted size eight. It is empirically a big fat head, and I don’t know if we want to see it shaved.”
He adds that “to have those [X-Men audition] experiences – and some of the other conversations and meetings I’ve had that haven’t been reported – it’s incredible.”
More casting for “X-Men” is expected to be announced soon with Knight Edge Media reporting that Cailee Spaeny is still reportedly speaking with Marvel about a smaller role in the film, not Rogue as previously rumored, a part that could be expanded in later features.
