“Immortals: Fenyx Rising” Sequel Cancelled

Ubisoft

Ubisoft has cancelled plans for a sequel to their 2020 mythological open-world adventure game “Immortals: Fenyx Rising” according to multiple sources for VGC.

The game was reportedly in early development at Ubisoft Quebec, but leadership decided to cancel it earlier this month following “perceived challenges around establishing the IP”.

First announced as “Gods and Monsters” back in 2019 and following their success with “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey,” Ubisoft Quebec opted to keep its next game in ancient Greece but follow the more mythological side with the new game.

Retitled “Immortals: Fenyx Rising,” the title released to generally favourable reviews with Ubisoft intending to grow the property into a franchise exploring different mythologies. The game’s DLC explored Chinese mythology.

Players played as the warior Fenyx on a quest to save the Greek gods from a dark curse. You take on mythological beasts and must defeat Typhon, the deadliest Titan in Greek mythology, in an epic fight.

Plans for the franchise’s future were cast into doubt after Ubisoft decided to pivot towards its most prominent brands. Sales for “Immortals: Fenyx Rising” were decent, but most came via discounting and so it wasn’t a major financial success.

In response to the report, a Ubisoft spokesperson told the outlet that the company “does not comment on rumours or speculation”.
