FX and Hulu’s acclaimed series “Reservation Dogs” will end with its upcoming third season.
Co-creator Sterlin Harjo made the announcement Thursday on Instagram, saying it was the “correct decision creatively for the show” and making it clear it was a decision on the part of the creators, not the network.
Harjo and Taika Waititi created the series which was renewed for a third season in September. That now final ten-episode run will kick off on August 2nd.
The half-hour series follows a group of teenagers (Devery Jacobs, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Lane Factor and Paulina Alexis) coming of age on a Native American reservation in Oklahoma.
Harjo wrote in his post: “I always knew what the end of this story would be, I just didn’t know when it would arrive. As we continued to break stories and write scripts this season, it became clear to the producers, Taika and me that the season three finale is the perfect series finale.”
FX issued its own statement, calling it “one of the most important TV shows ever made” and that “we support Sterlin and Taika’s decision to end the series in a way that will cement its legacy.”
The show has been a critical smash hit and has earned an AFI Award and a Peabody Award.
