With the new “Indiana Jones” opening this coming Friday, actor Mads Mikkelsen is talking up what’s next for him following his turn as the lead villain in that final Indy outing.
Speaking with Deadline, the actor confirms his next project is Nikolaj Arcel’s mid-18th century drama “The Bastard” – the second time the pair have worked together following Arcel’s acclaimed “A Royal Affair”.
Mikkelsen plays Ludvig von Kahlen, an 18th-century former soldier trying to tame the lawless heath of the Danish Jutland peninsula following a declaration by King Frederik V. The actor has already shot his role and says they are “just finishing the edit as we speak”.
He adds he’ll soon be heading to Budapest to reunite with “Hannibal” showrunner Bryan Fuller on Fuller’s feature debut “Dust Bunny”.
Mikkelsen will play the neighbour of an eight-year-old girl who enlists his help to kill the monster under her bed that she believes ate her family. Mikkelsen says:
“As you probably would have guessed, this will be a very beautiful but very crazy film. I don’t think I can say anything. But it’s about kids, and if we’re lucky kids can also watch it.”
He was also asked if there’s any genre or kind of film he’d love to do to that he hasn’t tackled yet. He revealed that he wants to do a zombie movie:
“I love zombies. I don’t know why. I’ve watched so many films since I was a kid, and it has always been fascinated. There’s something interesting about an enemy that moves so slow that you can actually picture yourself in that universe and get away from them and still get the thrill of being chased. Except for the World War Z, where they’re fast zombies.”
“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” opens Friday, June 30th.
