The other day came the news that The CW had finally decided the fate of several shows, with “Gotham Knights” being cancelled, whilst “Superman & Lois” scored a shortened ten-episode fourth season renewal.
Then came word that “Superman & Lois” would essentially be gutted – the large ensemble cast reduced to recurring or guest roles with only the four members of the Kent family and the newly introduced Lex Luthor as the sole regulars next year.
Now one of those ousted cast members, actor Wole Parks who plays Superman’s ally John Henry Irons, responded to the news in an Instagram story yesterday with a photo captioned: “Looking for work.”
The photo also tagged his co-star Sofia Hasmik who plays Smallville Gazette editor-in-chief Chrissy Beppo who was also cut from the series.
Parks marks the first ousted cast member to respond to the news, others who are also out include Dylan Walsh (as General Sam Lane), Emmanuelle Chriqui (as Mayor Lana Lang), Erik Valdez (as Kyle Cushing), Inde Navarrette (as Sarah), and Tayler Buck (as Natalie).
Meanwhile the producers of “Gotham Knights” were given the option of shopping around their series, but it turns out no-one wanted it. In a statement on social media, showrunners James Stoteraux and Chad Fiveash say:
“Over the last few months, our producing partners at Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Discovery had been working extremely hard to get the show picked up or possibly even moved to a new network.
There is a great deal of love and support for GK at the studio and at The CW as well. Unfortunately, despite all their efforts, The CW wasn’t able to renew the show, and the studio wasn’t able to find a new home for it.
It wasn’t for a lack of trying or a lack of enthusiasm. Even in a time of severe belt-tightening, the studio spent money and resources in the hope of continuing the show.”
They add that at this point it’s “virtually impossible” to resurrect the series, and a “million mind-numbing production logistics working against us at this point” which makes such a resurrection “extremely cost prohibitive”.
Out of the fourteen dramas that The CW aired this TV season, “Gotham Knights” came in at No. 8 in total audience. Its now series finale will air on June 27th.
