Idris Elba, Kathryn Hahn, Adam Devine, Bobby Moynihan, Fred Armisen, Beck Bennett, River Gallo and Michelle Buteau are set as the voice cast of Genndy Tartakovsky’s R-rated adult comedy animated feature “Fixed” at New Line Cinema and Sony Pictures Animation.
The film follows Bull: an average dog who discovers he is going to be neutered in the morning. As the gravity of this life-altering event sets in, Bull realizes he needs one last adventure with his pack of best friends before he gets ‘fixed’.
Tartakovsky (“Primal,” “Samurai Jack”) will complete the film in September and tells Variety that while “some people might get uncomfortable,” the aim of the film isn’t shock so much as just making a classic movie.
He says that if you can look past its edge: “You will find a very sweet, charming, sincere story of friendship and romance.” He also says that the film also celebrates 2D hand-drawn animation: “It has become a lost art. These days, everything is computer-generated. It was my dream to do this.”
Producer Michelle Murdocca adds: “It became this homage. We were able to secure animators we never thought we would be able to get. That’s when it became very exciting.”
Tartakovsky also says the film’s comedy won’t be pop culture based: “We have four layers of humor here: The raunchy stuff, the physicality, some character humor and dog owner humor. We don’t talk about pop culture; we don’t make fun of the Kardashians. It’s only within this one world.”
No word on a potential release date at this time.
