The CW has made a decision on its remaining scripted TV series.
Following months of negotiations, “Superman and Lois” has scored a renewal for a ten-episode fourth season, whilst “All American: Homecoming” will be getting a thirteen-episode third season.
They join “Walker” and “All American” as the four remaining scripted series from the previous regime that have made it to the next season. In addition, this year’s new series, “Gotham Knights.” has been cancelled after a single season.
The renewals for both “Superman & Lois” and “All American: Homecoming” come with budget cuts that include cast reductions – the former has twelve series regulars, the latter has nine. Some of those roles will likely be reduced to recurring and so only appear in a few episodes.
The CW is also likely to share some library streaming rights to “Superman & Lois” which is currently available on Max. Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment, The CW Network, says in a statement:
“We are thrilled to bring All American: Homecoming and Superman & Lois back to The CW. These series are two of our strongest performers across our linear and digital platforms, with some of the most passionate fanbases in all of television. We are grateful to our partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions for their continued collaboration, and we cannot wait to get started on the new seasons.”
“Gotham Knights” had been a respectable ratings performer might have made it to a second season in other times. But with The CW’s new ownership, only a handful of existing scripted series made the shortlist.
