After years of being mired in controversy, The Golden Globe Awards will no longer fall under the oversight of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).
Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge Industries have acquired all of the Golden Globes’ assets, rights and properties from the HFPA. As a result, the HFPA and its membership will shut down.
The new owners will launch the Golden Globe Foundation which will carry on HPFA’s entertainment-related charitable giving.
Dick Clark Productions and its partners will plan, host and produce the annual Golden Globe Awards show and will pursue commercial opportunities for the Globes globally.
A few HFPA members, including president Helen Hoehne, will be a part of the new commercial enterprise. Todd Boehly, chairman of Eldridge, says in a statement:
“Today marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the Golden Globes. My partners at DCP and I are grateful to Helen and team for their commitment to the successful implementation of a robust approach to governance, the expansion of the diverse and international voting body, implementing a professional, safe and accountable environment and trusting new ownership with a new direction for the Globes.”
The 81st annual Golden Globe Awards are still on track tol be held Sunday, January 7th 2024 though there is no broadcast partner yet for the event.
