Nearly twenty years after she last played Padme Amidala in 2005’s “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith,” actress Natalie Portman revealed in a recent interview with GQ she is open to returning to the franchise.
Portman said of a potential Amidala return: “I have no information on [coming back]. No one has ever asked me to return, but I’m open to it.” Portman played the role across three films, starting with 1999’s “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace”.
The ruler of Naboo and later senator secretly married Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), the character is pivotal to the whole Skywalker saga. She died during childbirth in ‘Sith’, an event that led to the separation of the twins Luke and Leia.
Several of Portman’s prequel co-stars have reprised their roles recently and made it to Disney+ shows and recent films, including Christensen, Ewan McGregor, Ahmed Best, Ian McDiarmid, Jimmy Smits and Joel Edgerton.
Previously Portman revealed her “Thor: Love and Thunder” director Taika Waititi at one point asked her if she might want to star in his currently-in-development “Star Wars” movie, to which she responded she already was in a “Star Wars” movie.
Since then, Waititi has indicated he has no interest in doing one with pre-existing characters and story threads, rather focusing on new characters and expanding the world.
