Samuel L. Jackson has been set to join Boyd Holbrook in the death-row drama “Last Meals” which is currently being shopped around to potential studios and streamers.
Jackson will play Walter, a disgraced White House chef who finds himself many years later working in a maximum-security prison cooking last meals for inmates on death row.
Holbrook will play Reed, the inmate who embarks on a hunger strike on Walter’s watch. The two men form an unlikely bond which gives Walter a look into the soul of a man who is willing to forgo his last pleasurable experience to protest his innocence.
Andrew Levitas (“Minimata”) directs from a script by Justin Piasecki. Originally titled “Death of an Ortolan,” Piasecki’s original version won the Nicholls Fellowship in 2016.
However, the pandemic led to the planned film stalling and it has since reportedly been refashioned – how much has changed isn’t clear.
Morgan Freeman, Gary Lucchesi, Lori McCreary, Michael McKay, Renee Tab and Christopher Tuffin will produce.
Jackson will shortly be seen in the Marvel Studios limited series “Secret Invasion” which is set to premiere on Disney+ next month.
