Mel Gibson To Direct Wahlberg In “Flight Risk”

Sony Pictures

Marking his first directorial effort since 2016’s “Hacksaw Ridge,” actor/filmmaker Mel Gibson is set to helm the Lionsgate action feature “Flight Risk” which will star Mark Wahlberg.

The 2020 Blacklist script by Jared Rosenberg is a contained thriller. It follows an Air Marshal transporting a fugitive across the Alaskan wilderness via a small plane. They soon find themselves trapped and suspecting the pilot may not be who he says he is.

Wahlberg will reportedly play the pilot whilst additional casting is underway. Wahlberg and Gibson previously collaborated on “Father Stu” and the “Daddy’s Home” franchise.

This would mark only the sixth directorial effort by Gibson over a thirty year span. The previous five are “The Man Without a Face,” “Braveheart,” “The Passion of the Christ,” “Apocalypto” and “Hacksaw Ridge”.

Gibson has long talked about doing a “The Passion” sequel with that project in various stages of development over the years. As an actor he’ll soon be see in the “John Wick” prequel series “The Continental” and has roles in “Informant” and “Desperation Road” which are both in post-production. He’s most recently been filming “Boneyard”.

Lionsgate is launching world sales on the package ahead of the Cannes market. Davis Entertainment will produce alongside Gibson and Bruce Davey’s Icon Productions.
