French filmmaker and actor Mathieu Kassovitz will lead the cast of “Paris Has Fallen,” an eight-part TV series reportedly set within the same universe as the Gerard Butler-led film franchise that began with “Olympus Has Fallen”.
StudioCanal, Urban Myth Films (“War of the Worlds”), and the film’s producers Millennium Media and G-Base are behind the project which is scheduled to begin filming on May 30th in London and Paris.
“Misfits” creator Howard Overman is writing the script whilst Oded Ruskin (“No Man’s Land”) is directing, whilst Johnny Capps, Julian Murphy, and Overman produce. The show will be shopped to U.S. and U.K. buyers in coming months.
Kassovitz (“Amelie”) plays Vincent, a protection officer to a French Minister who is the target of a terror group led by villain Jacob.
Vincent works with MI6 operative Zara to keep the politician safe, but they eventually unravel a wider plot, suspecting that a security service colleague is feeding information to Jacob, who is always a step ahead in his mission to bring down Paris.
Butler plays U.S. Secret Service agent Mike Banning in the films and could reportedly make a cameo. The show’s cast is currently being finalised.
The three ‘Has Fallen’ films have grossed more than $500M worldwide. In addition a fourth film titled “Night Has Fallen” is in the works.
