McAvoy Set For Blumhouse’s “Speak No Evil”

James McAvoy is re-teaming with his “Split” and “Glass” studio Blumhouse for “Speak No Evil,” a U.S. remake of the 2022 Danish psychological horror thriller “Gaesterne” at Universal Pictures.

The project hails from filmmaker James Watkins who pens and directs. Watkins created the infamously brutal “Eden Lake” starring Michael Fassbender, Kelly Reilly and Jack O’Connell, along with the Daniel Radcliffe-led remake of the famed ghost story “The Woman in Black”.

The original follows a Danish family who are invited by a Dutch family to their country house for a weekend holiday. The hosts soon begin to test the limits of their guests as the situation escalates – initially from passive-aggressive behaviours to a dark secret related to the hosts and this cabin.

The remake centers on a family that takes a dream holiday to an idyllic country house, only to have the vacation turn into a psychological nightmare. The original, which is not supernatural, goes to some very dark places and received positive reviews.

The script is based on the 2022 original that Christian Tafdrup directed. Jason Blum is producing, and Universal has set a release date of August 9th 2024. Filming will begin later this year.
