Frank Grillo Switching From Marvel To DC

Frank Grillo is defecting to the other side of comic book fandom – crossing over from Marvel to DC.

The action star famously took on the key role of Brock Rumlow, aka Crossbones, in Marvel Studios’ “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and played the character several times in further MCU films and the “What If?” TV series before being killed off.

However, in every case the role was relatively small and limited to, at most, a few minutes of screen time. This has understandably frustrated Grillo who has now signed on to an unnamed DC Studios project.

Speaking with Comicbook.com, Grillo talked about his frustrations with how Marvel treated his character who had a big role in the comics (Crossbones is the one who ‘kills’ Steve Rogers):

“They never told a story [about Crossbones]. The mythology of the MCU and just what Marvel has in its pool of characters, it’s so deep. Crossbones was there for a minute, but he was supposed to be there longer, then they went the direction they did.

I think Crossbones serves a purpose, but I think the interesting thing is that if you see how many people around the world have responded to Crossbones, and again, he’s on the screen for a very f—ing short amount of time, I think there’s more there. I think there was more meat on the bone. I was disappointed, which is why I went over to DC.”

Grillo doesn’t go into detail about what the DC project is, but the most likely one is as a cast member of James Gunn’s “Creature Commandos” animated series – potentially playing Rick Flag, Sr. in a role that could see him show up in live-action at some point.

Whilst “Superman: Legacy” is the first official big screen effort of the DCU, ‘Commandos’ comes earlier (next year, to be precise) and is the first screen effort in the new initiative.
