Todd Phillips’ “Joker: Folie a Deux” sequel returned to the Bronx Shakespeare Steps this week as the film officially wrapped production yesterday. It now begins a lengthy post-production process with over eighteen months to go before it hits cinemas.

To celebrate the end of filming, Phillips has released new high-quality shots of Joaquin Phoenix as Joker and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in the film which also stars Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey.

Phoenix reprises his Arthur Fleck/Joker role from the 2019 origin feature, which became the sixth highest-grossing film of that year and won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. It became the first R-rated movie ever to gross over $1 billion worldwide and landed Phoenix the Oscar for Best Actor.

Reports indicate the new film will take place primarily within the walls of Arkham Asylum and will essentially be a musical that unfolds from the perspective of the warped mind of Harley Quinn.

It essentially reverses the first film, which unfolded heavily from Fleck’s perspective. In the Batman comics, Quinn was psychiatrist Dr. Harleen Quinzel who worked at the asylum until her mind was warped by the Joker and she became obsessed with him.

The film is expected to change that up a bit and is considered a DC Elseworlds project outside the main cinematic DC Universe (DCU) of the Gunn-Safran DC Studios. “Joker: Folie a Deux” will open in theaters on October 4th 2024.
