Oscar-winning “Summer of Soul” filmmaker and Roots drummer Ahmir ‘Questlove’ Thompson is set to direct the live-action remake of “The Aristocats” at Disney Pictures.

Much like “Sonic the Hedgehog,” this adaptation will blend live-action and CGI elements. Thompson is also executive producing whilst Will Gluck (“Peter Rabbit”) and Keith Bunin (“Onward”) are adapting the screenplay.

The story centers on a family of pampered cats – mother Duchess and her three kittens Berlioz, Marie and Toulouse – who live in Paris and are expecting to inherit a massive fortune.

But when their owner’s jealous butler learns of their inheritance, he kidnaps the cats, who are forced to team up with a smooth-talking alleycat to reclaim their riches.

Tarik Trotter, Shawn Gee and Zarah Zohlman will serve as executive producers. The original film was commercially successful with $191 million at the box office.

The project joins Disney’s numerous animated films to get the live-action treatment, from “The Lion King” to “Beauty and the Beast,” “Mulan,” “Aladdin” and. more. Live-action takes on “Peter Pan” and “The Little Mermaid” hit shortly and a “Lilo and Stitch” adaptation is on the way.
