Scorsese’s “Flower Moon” Sets Release Date

Apple

Apple Original Films has set a Fall theatrical release for Martin Scorsese’s costly Western crime drama “Killers of the Flower Moon” starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

In a partnership with Paramount Pictures, the film will open in a limited U.S. theatrical release on Friday, October 6th followed by a wide Friday, October 20th theatrical run.

At a later date it will stream globally on Apple TV+ though the length of the exclusivity window between the theatrical and streaming launch hasn’t been revealed. It is likely though the $200 million budget film will hit the streaming service before year’s end

Eric Roth and Scorsese penned the script based on David Grann’s best-selling book, which explores the serial murder of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation during the 1920s. The murders prompted the newly-formed FBI to investigate.

DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow and “Certain Women breakout Lily Gladstone co-star in the film, which was shot in Oklahoma with the cooperation of members of the real-life Osage Nation. Previously Gladstone indicated that the Osage Nation’s input has considerably changed the film.

‘Flower Moon’ was originally set up at Paramount in 2019, with Apple coming aboard in 2020 to co-finance and co-distribute. Filming took place across much of 2021.
