A new report indicates that “Black Adam” star and producer Dwayne Johnson was the one to cancel plans for a “Shazam” and “Black Adam” crossover.
Multiple sources for The Wrap claims that Johnson was the one to scrap a scene that would have included Shazam being invited to join the Justice Society in the post-credits of his own film.
It goes beyond that though as the report also says there was a new version of that scene reworked and set to be included in the post-credits sequence of the “Shazam” sequel. Once again, Johnson reportedly vetoed that idea.
In its place, a similar scene is included with “Peacemaker” actors Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee – the result has confused fans as the characters wouldn’t really be the ones to invite anyone to join Justice Society.
Despite the Shazam and Black Adam characters being heavily linked in the comics, the news furthers speculation that Johnson has little regard for the “Shazam” franchise. After shepherding the Black Adam character for over a decade, it’s understandable he would want the role to stand on its own.
One way they have proven linked though is both have made headlines for soft reviews and box-office underperformance. Combined with the overhauled plans at DC Studios, both films are highly unlikely to get further sequels.
