A24 has scored worldwide rights to the classic Talking Heads 194 concert film “Stop Making Sense” directed by “Silence of the Lambs” helmer Jonathan Demme.
Regarded as one of the greatest concert films ever, plans are for a 4K restoration of the film which will be released in theaters globally later this year.
The live performance was shot roughly 40 years ago over the course of three nights at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater in December of 1983. David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, Jerry Harrison, Bernie Worrell, Alex Weir, Steve Scales, Lynn Mabry and Edna Holt all feature.
The film boasts many of Talking Heads’ most memorable songs, including “Burning Down the House,” “Once in a Lifetime” and “This Must Be the Place”.
Tied to the re-release, Record label Rhino will offer a new deluxe version of the soundtrack on vinyl and digitally on August 18th and will include the complete concert for the first time.
This is coming off A24 taking home multiple Oscars on Sunday, and follows what’s considered another of the great concert films involving David Byrne with the Spike Lee-directed “American Utopia” which HBO released in late 2020.
