Netflix is reportedly closing a major deal for the rights to Chris Hicks’ 22-page short story “I Am Not Alone” with plans to turn it into a high-profile grounded genre film.
In addition, “Lovecraft Country” and “Underground” creator Misha Green is set to write the script and direct the film which is being designed as a star vehicle for Oscar winner Jessica Chastain.
Five different studios and streamers were chasing the project over the span of the past three days with the deal coming down to Netflix and Warner Bros. Pictures. Green’s desire for this to be with a streamer seems to have won the day with everyone involved set for big paydays.
The story centers around the mother of a young daughter whose life unravels when she suffers unbearable migraines that cause her to hallucinate creatures. She is soon forced to defend her family against a threat only she can see.
Chastain, former “X-Men” alum Simon Kinberg, Kelly Carmichael, Audrey Chon, Craig Flores, Scott Glassgold and Peter Katz are producing.
Chastain most recently filmed “Memory” and “Mother’s Instinct” and has long been linked to the seemingly stalled in development film adaptation of Ubisoft’s “The Division” gaming franchise.
