In an unprecedented move, “Community” and “Rick and Morty” co-creator/producer/writer Dan Harmon’s animated comedy series “Krapopolis” has scored a third season renewal.
What’s so surprising is the show hasn’t even made it to air yet, not even a single trailer has been released, but FOX is seemingly happy enough with what they’re seeing they’re ordering more.
Not only that, but the renewal comes despite FOX also opting to delay the series premiere again by several months. Originally the plan was to premiere the series with a preview in November last year. That was pushed to a four-episode, two-hour block in May.
Now those plans have been scrapped with the series set to make its debut in the 2023-24 season in the Fall – over three years after Harmon signed a deal with the broadcast network that included a series commitment.
The push to the Fall is also being seen as a sign of confidence with FOX tipped to be using the football season to help give the show a much better chance of success. They’re also got plenty in the library in case of a writer’s strike.
The series is set in mythical ancient Greece and centers on a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters that tries to run one of the world’s first cities without killing each other.
Richard Ayoade plays Tyrannis, the King of Krapopolis and the mortal son of both the self-destructive goddess Deliria (Hannah Waddingham) and the half-manticore/half-centaur struggling artist Shlub (Matt Berry).
Not helping is his goddess/cyclops half-sister Stupendous (Pam Murphy) or his part-mermaid half-brother Hippocampus (Duncan Trussell).
