“Squid Game” Star Talks Season 2 Filming

Netflix

“Squid Game” star Lee Jung Jae has been busy shooting a major role in the “Star Wars: The Acolyte” TV series in the UK since it began production in September.

Taking a break from filming, the Korean actor spoke with Ilgan Sports (via AllKPop) about his busy 2023 commitments where he offered updates on where several projects of his stand.

First up, he’ll continue filming ‘Acolyte’ until it wraps principal photography in March or April. He has talked about his experience, saying whilst shooting on a major western production like this is quite similar, he has found “in some ways, filming sets in Korea are actually more efficient.”

He’ll then return to Korea to work on “Ray,” a spin-off series from the 2021 film “Deliver Us From Evil”. The series, which he also produces, will have a “more bright, colorful tone” than the original film.

Then comes the second season of Netflix’s massive sensation “Squid Game” which will see him film alongside Lee Byung Hun who is expected to return as the black-masked figure. Lee says:

“‘Squid Game 2’ will begin filming in the summer and the filming will likely last for about ten months. We were working on season 1 for about ten months as well, but that was with delays caused by COVID-19. But seeing as season 2 will be bigger in scale, it will probably take longer to complete.”

Considering Netflix shows don’t release until several months after filming is completed, we may not see a release until late 2024 at the earliest or possibly sometime in 2025.
