Mike Colter (“Evil,” “Luke Cage”) has been set to lead “Ship,” a sequel to the just-released action thriller “Plane” which he and Gerard Butler co-starred in for Lionsgate.
In the original film, Colter played accused murderer and former French Legionnaire Louis Gaspare who was being extradited to Canada. When Trailblazer Flight 119 crash lands in the Philippines, he forms an unlikely partnership with Butler’s Captain Brodie Torrance to rescue the plane’s passengers and crew from pirates on a dangerous remote island.
In this sequel, Gaspare hops onboard a cargo ship in East Asia to escape the Philippines. He soon discovers the vessel is being used as a ferry for a human trafficking ring and he ends up teaming up with the second mate/navigator to take down the ship’s corrupt captain and keeping its innocent passengers safe whilst trying to liberate its captives.
MadRiver Pictures, Di Bonaventura Pictures and G-BASE Productions are back to produce the follow-up, and original director Jean-François Richet will return as an executive producer.
Talks are reportedly underway with writers and directors on the project which aims to shoot later this year ahead of a mid-late 2024 or 2025 release. The Veterans will shop the project around to buyers at the European Film Market.
Made on a budget of $25 million, “Plane” has pulled in $43 million at the worldwide box-office so far along with landing some pretty good reviews.
