Since its launch in 2020, Comcast has offered an ad-supported version of Peacock Premium to Xfinity TV and broadband customers for no extra charge. It’s a deal that helped Peacock gain traction in its first few years.
On June 26th, that’s going away with Peacock Premium no longer being bundled in for free for Xfinity customers. Customers will be able to purchase a subscription as an add-on at a discounted rate with a price still TBD. It will likely be comparable to DirecTV Stream where the rate is $2.99 per month (a 40% discount).
As of the end of 2022, Peacock had 20 million paid subscribers, more than double from 9 million a year earlier. That 20 million doesn’t include free or promotional accounts like those getting a freebie through Xfinity.
The amount of content on Peacock Premium is expected to keep growing in 2023 and ultimately aims to boast 100,000 hours of programming across original series, licensed TV shows, movies, and live sports and news says NBCU.
Peacock now offers next-day streaming of NBC and Bravo shows following their linear TV premiere, clawing back those rights from Hulu in 2022. It’s also had success in the original series arena of late with “Poker Face,” “Bel-Air” and “Dr. Death”. Later this year it has the nuns vs. AI series “Mrs. Davis” and the “John Wick” prequel “The Continental” on the way.
