CBS has announced that the current fourteenth season of “NCIS: Los Angeles” will be the show’s last. The series finale is set for a May 14th airing on the network.
The first and longest-running of the “NCIS” spinoffs will end its run with a total of 322 episodes. LL Cool J, Chris O’Donnell, Daniela Rush and Eric Christian Olsen have led the cast of the series throughout its entire run with Linda Hunt, Barrett Foa, RenĂ©e Felice Smith, Medalion Rahimi, Miguel Ferrer, Caleb Castille and Gerald McRaney among others also having significant roles.
This season the series has been averaging 6.2 million total viewers and a 0.6 demo rating (in Live+7) – down 15% from its thirteenth season. Among CBS’ thirteen dramas this season, it ranks No. 12 in total audience – ahead of only “CSI: Vegas”.
Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment says in a statement:
“For 14 seasons, NCIS: Los Angeles has been a stalwart of our lineup with characters who were a joy to watch. It’s no surprise this show succeeded as a global franchise. From Day 1, the cast, producers and crew were amazing Network/Studios partners, and their teamwork, talent and spirit vividly came through on the screen. We are so grateful for the collaboration and remarkable run of these treasured members of our CBS family, and plan to give them the big sendoff they and their fans deserve.”
The cast and crew are reportedly being told today about the series coming to an end. The timing of the announcement is said to allow showrunner R. Scott Gemmill and his team the time they need to craft a proper series finale.
