Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is projected to have a second-weekend drop of around 60% for a three-day haul of $70-72 million.
In its first five days, the Ryan Coogler-directed Disney and Marvel Studios sequel has amassed $204.8 million domestically. This week its only challengers are more adult-oriented dramatic fare with Universal’s “She Said,” Searchlight’s “The Menu” and the Luca Guadagnino-directed “Bones and All” hitting cinemas.
The Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy led dark comedy “The Menu” is getting the widest release ever for Searchlight at 3,100 theaters and is tracking for an $8 million (or higher) start. The Harvey Weinstein sex scandal-themed “She Said” however isn’t expected to have a lot of major appeal with a $4 million debut.
“Bones and All” gets a limited release ahead of a wider expansion next week. All three films have scored very good reviews, with “The Menu” sitting the highest on Rotten Tomatoes at 90% followed by ‘Bones’ with 88% and ‘She Said’ with 86%.
One complicating factor is that several major films are getting streaming debuts this week too – the “Enchanted” sequel “Disenchanted” kicks off on Disney+ while Netflix will release the Jason Momoa-led “Slumberland” and Amazon has the Allison Janney & Kristen Bell-led “The People We Hate at the Wedding”.
