Former DC Chief Sets Paramount Horror Deal

Former president of DC Films Walter Hamada has signed an exclusive, multi-year production deal with Paramount Pictures.

Kicking off on New Year’s Day, Hamada will spearhead the studio’s mainstream horror films with the aim of releasing several low-to mid-budget films per year across theatrical and streaming.

Hamada says in a statement: “I am thrilled to collaborate with Paramount Pictures with the singular goal of creating exceptional movies in the horror genre. Over the course of my career, nothing has been more gratifying than discovering emerging, first-time filmmakers and writers and unleashing their brilliance in a studio setting. Thank you to Brian and the entire team at Paramount Pictures for this tremendous opportunity, I can’t wait to get started.”

Paramount is coming off the strong box-office success of “Smile” which has grossed $209 million to date worldwide off a small budget.

The deal also comes a month after Hamada left Warner Bros. Pictures, where he oversaw DC films like “Joker,” “Aquaman,” and “Wonder Woman”. He also helped launch “The Conjuring” and “IT” franchises at New Line.
