Rian Johnson’s “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” is something of a reunion of Daniel Craig and Dave Bautista, the pair having starred together in the 2015 James Bond entry “Spectre”.
Bautista had a small supporting role as the lethal but mostly mute Mr. Hinx, a top assassin for evil organisation Spectre and its boss Ernst Stavro Blofeld. He and Daniel Craig’s Bond ended up in several action scenes together, including a fistfight on a train and an explosive car/plane chase.
In the new film though, the pair have more on screen time together, and according to Bautista they all had a lot more fun. This is especially true of Craig, with Bautista saying the former 007 had much more fun playing in this genre. He tells EW this week:
“He [Craig] was really put through it on Bond, You could feel that he was under a lot of pressure. He didn’t seem like the happiest person on Bond, but on ‘Glass Onion,’ it was the complete opposite. He was just so much fun, and he was always smiling and happy and interacted a lot more.
On ‘Spectre,’ there wasn’t a whole lot of interaction with the whole cast. But ‘Glass Onion’ was the complete opposite. We were always together. So I got to know him better as a person and actually see him do his thing.”
Bautista says that he’s “always in awe of people who can transform themselves,” like Craig did going from Bond to “Knives Out”. He adds that it’s a reason he wanted to be an actor: “As odd as it sounds — because I look like a fucking gorilla — I wanted to be a chameleon.”
“Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” will open in theaters for one week only, starting November 23rd, ahead of a Neflix release on December 23rd. The title is now streaming on Amazon Prime.
