Geri Halliwell-Horner, better known as Ginger Spice from The Spice Girls, has joined the cast of Neill Blomkamp’s “Gran Turismo” film adaptation at Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions.
In addition, Josha Stradowski (“The Wheel of Time”), Daniel Puig (“Naomi”), and veteran actors Djimon Hounsou and Thomas Kretschman have also boarded the big screen take on the best-selling racing video game.
They all join David Harbour, Archie Madekwe, Orlando Bloom and Darren Barnett in the project, which is currently shooting in Hungary.
The wish-fulfilment tale follows a teenage Gran Turismo player (Madekwe) whose gaming skills won him a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver.
Jason Hall (“American Sniper”) and Zach Baylin (“King Richard”) penned the script based on a true story.
Hounsou and Halliwell-Horner are playing the teen’s parents while Puig his brother. Stradowski is a rival driver, and Kretschmann is his father.
Halliwell-Horner has familiarity with the topic as her husband is a former racer and now team principal of Red Bull’s Formula One team
Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan, Doug Belgrad, and Dana Brunetti are producing. The film releases theatrically on August 11th 2023.
