Post-“Dumbo” Tim Burton Not A Disney Fan

After several successful past collaborations, it sounds as if filmmaker Tim Burton and Disney won’t be reuniting anytime soon.

Indiewire reports that the filmmaker spoke about his relationship with the Mouse House at the Lumiere Festival this week. His last film there was 2019’s live-action remake of “Dumbo” which pulled in $353 million worldwide at the box-office despite mixed reviews.

It turns out that the film ended up being the catalyst that ended their working partnership. Burton says:

“My history is that I started out there. I was hired and fired like several times throughout my career there. The thing about ‘Dumbo,’ is that’s why I think my days with Disney are done, I realized that I was ‘Dumbo,’ that I was working in this horrible big circus and I needed to escape. That movie is quite autobiographical at a certain level.”

Burton made a handful of movies with Disney, including the beloved “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” the live-action “Alice in Wonderland,” and the feature-length “Frankenweenie”.

His next project is the Netflix series “Wednesday” which is set to debut on November 23rd.
