Square Enix Plans “Parasite Eve” Revival?

Square Enix

Game publisher Square Enix has reportedly filed a trademark for ‘symbiogenesis’ with the filing made back on October 13th and made public today reports Gematsu.

The term, which refers to the merging of two separate organisms into a single new organism, is part of the basis for the story of the 1995 Japanese novel “Parasite Eve” by Hideaki Sena. In 1998 Square Enix developed the famed video game “Parasite Eve” which served as a sequel to the book.

The filing has led to understandable questions as to whether Square Enix, having seen the success of Capcom’s “Resident Evil” remakes and Konami’s upcoming “Silent Hill” projects, plans to revive the “Parasite Eve” series. Nothing has been confirmed as yet though in regards to the franchise be it a remake or a new chapter.

Three games were released in the series, which follows New York City police officer Aya Brea over a six-day span in 1997 as she attempts to stop the Eve – a woman who plans to destroy the human race through spontaneous human combustion.

The title was SquareSoft’s first M-rated game and the first major American and Japanese game development collaboration for the company. It scored acclaim for its graphics, gameplay and soundtrack but also criticism for its linear approach.
