Kanye ‘Ye’ West has claimed in an interview on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” that filmmaker Quentin Tarantino and actor Jamie Foxx “got the idea” for 2012 box-office hit “Django Unchained” from him.
West said he pitched a similar idea for his 2005 music video “Gold Digger” which features Foxx, a video that ultimately was nothing like the western film which also starred Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio. However, Ye claims the film’s story was his idea:
“Tarantino can write a movie about slavery, where actually – him and Jamie – they got the idea from me, because the idea for ‘Django’ I pitched to Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino as the video for ‘Gold Digger.’ And then Tarantino turned it into a film”
The comments came as an answer to a question by Morgan about the limits of free speech to which Ye indicated Tarantino’s film shows there are no limits to free speech as it’s filled with racial slurs and is accepted by audiences.
Tarantino of course conceived of “Django Unchained” well before Foxx’s attachment to the project, with both Will Smith and Michael K. Williams up for the lead role at one point.
Ye’s Twitter and Instagram accounts have been restricted in recent weeks after he posted antisemitic comments.
