“Halloween Ends”…. For Now?

Universal Pictures

David Gordon Green’s recent “Halloween” trilogy comes to a close with “Halloween Ends” opening in cinemas and arriving on Peacock next Friday.

The film marks the third feature of the recent trilogy, the thirteenth overall “Halloween” film, and the seventh with Jamie Lee Curtis reprising her iconic role of Laurie Strode.

This is said to be Curtis’ last outing in the role, and the last of the Blumhouse-produced “Halloween” films. However, neither Curtis or Green have entirely ruled out a return of the “Halloween” franchise.

Speaking with SFX recently (via Games Radar, Curtis is realistic about the future and remembers how it was her godson Jake Gyllenhaal who introduced her to Green which led to her returning to a franchise she’d previously sworn off:

“The last thing I thought five years ago that I would be doing would be a Halloween movie. And here I am, having now completed three of them with a fantastic creative group of people.

That has not only been satisfying for me, but it’s launched me creatively into a whole other world. I have a creative life now, because of the Halloween movie, and the success.

I now have a partnership with Jason Blum at Blumhouse, I have a production company, I’ve written a horror film that I will direct, I am producing television series, I am buying books. All of that was the last thing I thought I would be doing five years ago. So to say never is stupid.”

A similar response comes from Green who is well aware that the Shape will continue on after his exit:

“You can kill every character and still find a way to continue their stories. So as long as they’re successful, as Carpenter often speaks to – because he’s been the recipient of the successes and frustrations of those reinventions – stories will find ways to carry on, I’m certain.”

“Halloween Ends” is set to open in cinemas and on Peacock on October 14th. Currently the film is tipped for a domestic opening weekend in the $35-45 million range.
