“Last Airbender” Series Sets More Cast

Netflix has announced several new cast members set to join its live-action “Avatar: The Last Airbender” series based on the acclaimed animated series which ran from 2005-2008 on Nickelodeon.

The show unfolds in a fantasy world divided into four nations, each centered around one of the four elements. A century after the Fire Nation launched an attack and pledged war on the world, a new young Airbender named Aang – an Avatar who can master all four elements – is discovered.

The four key roles had previously been announced – Aang (Gordon Cormier), Katara (Kiawentiio Tarbell), Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu). Also previously revealed are Daniel Dae Kim as Lord Ozai, Paul Sun-Hyung as Uncle Iroh, Lim Kay Siu as Monk Gyatso, Elizabeth Yu and Princess Azula, and Ken Leung as Commander Zhao.

Today comes the news of “Prey” actress Amber Midthunder joining as Princess Yue, “Community” actor Danny Pudi is The Mechanist, former “Teen Wolf” alum Arden Cho is relentless bounty hunter June, the legend that is George Takei as predatory ancient spirit Koh.

Also onboard is James Sie reprising his role from the animated series as Cabbage Man, while “Ghosts” actor Utkarsh Ambudkar will play the mercurial ruler King Bumi. Finally, Momona Tamada and Thalia Tran will play Ty Lee and Mai, the two constant companions of Princess Azula.

This new version of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” will premiere on Netflix on a yet-to-be-announced date.
