“Breaking Bad” Creator’s Next Set At Apple

AMC, Sony Pictures Television

“Breaking Bad” creator and “Better Call Saul” co-creator Vince Gilligan’s next series has officially set up shop at Apple TV+ with the tech giant handing out a two-season straight-to-series order.

Currently untitled, the project is dubbed a blended, grounded genre drama and has ‘Saul’ actress Rhea Seehorn attached to play the lead. Plot specifics of the series are under wraps.

Sony Pictures Television is backing the series on which Gilligan will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Jeff Frost and Diane Mercer will also executive produce.

Nearly ten networks and streamers reportedly pursued the project with multiple rounds of bidding for the show, which is said to boast a budget of up to $15 million per episode.

Apple partly won out because several key execs at Sony Pictures Television who helped greenlight “Breaking Bad” and have long collaborated with Gilligan are now working at Apple.
